Balance, Health and Well-being

For me, an essential part of living a Well Balanced lifestyle is to PRACTICE.

Studying Ayurvedic full heartedly supports the belief, “Balance is Health and Health is Balance.” The very basis of the word Ayurveda represents the union of the mind, body, senses, and soul. These principles teach us to live in harmony with the basic laws of Mother Nature.  The first step to living this lifestyle is to nourish your body accordingly with the changing seasons of Mother Nature throughout the year.

Through practicing these Ayurvedic principles, I am starting to see the benefits as I notice myself functioning at peak performance!  My greatest gift to give others in this holiday season is the ability to ingest all this ancient and incredible information that I have been experiencing personally…. analyze, practice it, and then offer it to my peeps…like YOU!!

As I enter these cold winter months, the first thought I have is to keep warm. The ways I know of keeping warm traditionally are to wear coats, gloves and hats. As well as being wrapped in a blanket by the nurturing heat of a fire, with the playful taste of a glass of red wine or the warmth of sipping hot tea.

Cold, dry air and windy wintry weather, all impede our body’s ability to keep warm. Basically, the dry and cold outside of our bodies creates dry and cold inside.

To balance and protect our skin in the winter, we must use the “principle of opposites,” favoring warm foods and drinks, soups and other water-rich foods, including healthy oils to fight winter dryness.

An Ayurvedic winter ritual, which I have incorporated into my daily skin care ritual, is applying Organic Sesame Oil to my entire body as my daily moisturizer. Sound crazy? Not at all! The benefits are great!

Sesame oil actually heats up the body by a warming effect when massaged into the skin. I’m getting warmer just thinking about this!

I apply it on either damp skin after a shower or dry skin before taking a bath (my favorite)…just watch that you don’t slip while stepping into the bath!!

This method should keep your skin moisturized throughout the day by stopping the moisture from leaving through your many pores, since sesame oil basically traps moisture where it is. If the smell is too sesame for you, no worries!  Mix 6-10 drops of fragrant essential oils into 16 ounces of Sesame Oil, and voi la!

Try Winter Essentials such as clove, rosemary, lavender, thyme, or cedar wood. I absolutely LOVE clove!

The Sesame Oil that I use is made by Banyan Botanicals.

  •       USDA Organic (free of chemical herbicides and pesticides)
  •       100% Expeller Pressed, a natural method for extracting oil
  •       Unrefined, allowing for maximum nutrition for the skin

I am so excited to share more of my teachings and practices as a piece of my upcoming and long awaited “Live Your Truth” program, launching January 2015 for Shift graduates & Private Clients only. It’s all about nourishing your heart and soul, focusing on your emotions and ultimately finding your TRUTH!
